SA Risk Management Playbook

Built an interactive risk management playbook written for South Africa's actual operating conditions: twin peaks regulation, load shedding, FATF greylisting, and a crime environment that makes standard BCP templates inadequate. Covers governance (SARB/FSCA, POPIA, FICA/AML), operational risk (load shedding, crime, labour/strike), and strategic/macro risk (geopolitical, reputational, insurance gaps) with a SA-calibrated 5×5 risk matrix and a standards map.

Outcome

Produced a reference-grade enterprise risk tool used for advisory engagements with SA financial services and corporate clients.

Risk Metrics Explainer

Designed and shipped an interactive explainer that turns abstract portfolio-risk concepts into manipulable scenarios. The app helps readers see how Sharpe ratio, VaR, CVaR, Sortino ratio, and max drawdown respond to changing assumptions instead of encountering the metrics as static textbook definitions.

Outcome

Converted a dense risk-education topic into a hands-on learning tool that makes portfolio trade-offs legible in minutes.

Loan Ops: Portfolio Command Centre

An end-to-end loan operations command centre covering deal pipeline, live KPI cards, task queue, and a 3D portfolio globe, built for a commercial lending desk.

Outcome

Demonstrated operational dashboarding for financial services, combining real-time KPIs, visual pipeline tracking, and 3D data visualisation in a single client-side application.

Experience

From the ledger to the system.

I joined Forbatt SA as an executive assistant, moved into finance, and now lead the finance function as Financial Controller. That progression shaped how I build: understand the operation first, then remove the friction.

Systems Engineering: Building Agentic Software That Works

Most agentic apps fail not because of bad models, but bad system design. Here's the five-layer framework that actually works.

Does financial AI developed primarily on US/EU data systematically misprice African credit risk? Evidence from SA lending markets

The deeper problem is that credit AI models were never really designed to price African credit risk at all. They were built on the assumption that creditworthiness leaves a formal paper trail. In South Africa, that assumption fails for a large majority of the adult population, and the consequences range from exclusion to predatory targeting.

South Africa's National AI Policy Framework: A Blueprint for Responsible Innovation

In October 2024, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies published South Africa's first formal national AI policy. Not legislation, not a finished product: a strategic foundation and an opening position in a longer, more contested conversation about how this country governs one of the most consequential technologies of our time.
